Research

Research is the advancement of Technologies and is facilitated by the Research Lab.

Most technologies require some minimum level of Research Lab to begin research.

All research requires some amount of time (reduced by increasing the Research Lab level) and resources.1)

Research Time

The time required to research an additional level of a technology is as follows, where X is the „research speed“ of the universe:

Time(hours) = (Metal Cost + Crystal Cost) / (X * 1000 * (1 + Research Lab level))

The Intergalactic Research Network effectively adds the levels of multiple Research Labs together when computing research times.

Types of Research

Fundamental Research

Fundamental research is a prerequisite for some other technology or for the construction of some buildings, ships, and defenses.

Researching beyond these levels provides no strategic advantage.

Strategic Research

Strategic research actively alters gameplay in some way with every level.

Strategic research levels are limited only by their required resources and research time, which become prohibitively large at higher levels.

Espionage Technology More detailed spy reports and greater chance of espionage defense
Computer Technology Increased maximum number of fleets (+1 per level)
Weapons Technology Increased attack power (+10% of the base value per level)
Shield Technology Increased shield power (+10% of the base value per level)
Armor Technology Increased ship hull integrity (+10% of the base value per level)
Energy Technology Increased efficiency of Deuterium Power Plants
Combustion Engine Increased speed for ships with combustion engines (+10% of the base value per level)
Impulse Engine Increased speed for ships with impulse engines (+20% of the base value per level), increased range of interplanetary missiles
Hyperspace Engine Increased speed for ships with hyperspace drive (+30% of the base value per level)
Intergalactic Research Network Connect an additional Research Lab to the network, adding its level to the network's effective research speed
Astrophysics Research Increased number of colonies, colonizable positions, and simultaneous expeditions
Mineral Research Increased metal production (+2% bonus per level)
Semi-Crystals Research Increased crystal production (+2% bonus per level)
Fuel Research Increased deuterium production (+2% bonus per level)

Except for Graviton Research which instead requires massive amounts of Energy and takes only 1 second.
